What the execution data shows
- The read was excellent. I shorted NQ at 29,924 at 6:48 PM, and it fell 65 points to 29,859 by 7:32 PM. #2 took only 4.25 of those points, in 15 seconds.
- #1 ES was the best-managed trade: 4.75 of a 6.5-point move (73%) on 1.75 points of heat. ES then kept dropping another 6.5 points.
- #4, #5 and #6 were three NQ scalps in 3.5 minutes, right at the bottom of that move. They made 1.25 to 1.75 points each, and #5 and #6 took 7.25 and 7.5 points of heat to get there. That’s more risk than reward, entered late in the move.
- Commissions took about 5% of gross, high for me, because seven trades netted under 5 points each on average.
Takeaway
Right direction all night, but the profit came in small pieces. One patient NQ short from 29,924, held for half the 65-point move, would have outearned all seven trades combined. On a clean trend night, fewer trades and a runner beat a string of scalps.
