Each scan is a starting list, not a trade list. Bear scans (SW3, SW4) and the watch-only list (SW6) are graded on their own rules; read the reason line on every card.

What the scans and grades meanRead the methodology
- SW1 Bull Pullback
- Pullbacks below the 20-day average inside a stacked uptrend (quarter up, week down, above the 200-day, 50 above 200): bounce longs off the 21 EMA.
- SW2 Bull Breakout
- Stage 2 leaders within 10% of the 52-week high, up 20% or more over six months, above the 20- and 200-day: base and breakout watch.
- SW3 Bear Pullback
- Rallies above the 20-day inside a downtrend (quarter down 10% or more, below the 200-day): resistance shorts; shorts backtest weaker, so only on clean confluence.
- SW4 Bear Breakdown
- Names within 10% of the 52-week low, down 20% or more over six months, below every average: breakdown continuation, traded only on a failed bounce.
- SW5 Snapback Long
- Oversold dips (RSI 14 under 40) below the 20-day in a longer uptrend: the counter-trend scan that backtested positive.
- SW6 Stretch Fade Watch
- Overbought names (RSI over 70, 10% or more above the 20-day): watch only, for take-profit and covered-call decisions; fades backtested negative.
- SW7 Wheel Candidates
- Large-cap US dividend payers with P/E under 30, beta under 1.5, RSI under 60, above the 200-day: the cash-secured put list.
- SW8 ETF Pullback
- Optionable ETFs pulling back below the 20-day inside an uptrend; skip leveraged and inverse funds by hand.
- Shared universe
- Every stock scan starts from the same universe: mid cap and larger (over $2B), price over $20, average volume over 1M shares, optionable, institutional ownership over 30% and an average true range over $1. SW7 swaps in large caps (over $10B), US only, dividend payers with a P/E under 30 and beta under 1.5. SW8 runs on the ETF screener.
- The group framework
- Four checks decide the grade: the EMA 20/50 cross (direction and age), the Vegas Channel (EMA 144/169: which side price is on, in ATRs), the Fibonacci retracement of the last swing leg (the 0.382 to 0.618 entry zone) and the yearly VWAP anchored on 1 January with its bands. The moving-average stack, stretch from the 21 EMA, stochastic, RSI and ADX add confluence.
- Grades A, B and C
- A: the chart agrees with the scan on every required check for its strategy (trend, cross, the right side of the Vegas Channel, the entry zone) with enough confluence. B: most of it, but one check is missing or the setup is not in the zone yet. C: the chart argues against the scan. Earnings within 14 days or a gap of 3 ATR or more in the last 15 bars caps a name at B.
- Score
- The confluence points behind the grade. Each strategy has its own rules and thresholds (pullbacks, breakouts, snapbacks, fade watch and wheel are scored differently), so compare scores within one scan, not across scans.
- Added, carried and dropped
- Added names are new on the scan since the previous scan day; carried names were already on it; dropped names were on the previous list and are not on this one, shown dimmed with their numbers from the previous day. A drop is information: on SW2, for example, a fresh 52-week high leaves the 0 to 10% below the high filter.
- Schedule
- The scans run at 17:30 ET, Monday to Friday, after the close, and the page is published at about 17:35 ET. The archive starts on Monday 26 October 2026 and gains one page per scan day.
- Data source
- End-of-day Finviz screener data (the public screener; the TradingView screener stands in with the same rules when Finviz blocks the request) and daily Yahoo bars for the chart read. Research data, not trade advice.
