Globex session · Monday, November 2, 2026

One trade, 9:40 to 10:37 PM ET, net +$1,475.20 on the pair after $24.80 in commissions. The long leg was stopped at the low of the 9:42 bar and the stop order was a 2-lot, so the same fill opened the short. Two adds later, one of them within a tick of the bounce high, and the 10:36 break paid 5.75 points on three lots per account. The session itself is written up separately in Four Losers, Then the Flip; this entry is the encore.

What the execution data shows

  • The long was bought into the first real volume of the hour. ES had drifted from 7,581.25 at 9:24 PM down to 7,577.50, and the 9:40 bar traded 819 contracts, three times the bars around it, with a low of 7,575.50. The buy at 7,577.00 was in that bar, betting the volume was a flush.
  • It was not. The 9:42 bar broke to 7,574.75 and the 2-lot stop filled on the low tick at 9:43 PM. That fill closed the long for −2.25 points and opened the short at the same price. No decision in between, which is the point: the flip was pre-loaded in the order.
  • The first add was the best fill of the night. Price bounced for four bars to 7,578.25 on the 9:50 bar, and the second lot went on at 7,578.00, one tick under the high of the bounce. The next bar dropped two points and the move to 7,572.00 by 10:00 PM was never threatened again.
  • Then 26 minutes of chop between 7,573.00 and 7,576.25, and the third lot went on at 7,575.25 at 10:20 PM, near the middle of it. That add was the weakest of the three, but with the average already at 7,576.00 and price below it, it added size without adding risk above the bounce high.
  • The break came at 10:28 PM: 7,572.00, then 7,571.50 at 10:34, then the 10:36 bar fell to 7,569.00 on 2,033 contracts, the biggest bar in the window. All three lots were covered inside that bar and the next, at 7,570.50, 7,570.25 and 7,570.00, within a point and a half of the low. Price made 7,567.75 six minutes later, so about 2.5 points were left, which is the right side to leave them on.

Takeaway

This was the session’s lesson applied two hours later. The long was a guess at a flush and it cost 2.25 points, but the stop was sized to flip, so the wrong read turned into the right position without a second decision. The first add went on at the top of the bounce, the kind of add that has paid six times this past week, and the cover came off the volume bar instead of waiting for a target. The difference between this trade and the first four of the night is not the entry. It is that the exit from being wrong was already on the book before being wrong.
